Sculpture
Plaster of Paris
January 1997
This sculpture was my first ever plaster sculpture. I had never
carved any form of media previously, and I'm surprised how well this
piece turned out. I have been complimented at my skill with handling
the small delicate parts (handle, torch and bars). The shadows were
very difficult, considering they should all come from the torch light.
However, because of it's position, most of the house would be black;
so I had to compromise. I also had to try to camouflage many chips,
tear, and wear from travel. The chimney broke off and was lost, and
parts of the rocks, the window, and roof chipped away. It does however
give a more rustic look, which I am happy with. Looking carefully,
you can see two small red eyes peeking between the bars in the door.
